Free swimming session are running at the Mill House Leisure Centre in Hartlepool every day. It has become a great success in its first week. Over 17,000 children have already made use of the scheme run by the Harlepool Borough Council. Youngsters under 16 have benefited, as thousands swam for free. Parents accompanying their children too have enjoyed the splash at the sessions with them. Many of the youngsters have been using the free buses arranged for transportation. The free sessions operate during weekdays, up to 29 August, Friday, from 10AM to 12.30PM. Excludes Bank Holiday on 25 August, Monday.
The Leader of Hartpool Borough Council, councillor Christopher Akers Belcher, said they were delighted by the response from the local community. The first few days benefited 1,724 children from free swims and 1,037 children coming on free buses. Swimming is a great way to fitness and children must be encouraged in their early days, he added.
