To celebrate Heritage Open Days, Riversmeet are organising at the Confluence site a special day of ‘Storying’ and will share what they discovered in research at the fascinating site. The Confluence site is where the Derwent and Cocker rivers confluence, an an interesting site to explore and with a rich industrial heritage. People of all ages can join here at 11am and 2pm for storytelling, to hear myths, legends and tales about rivers, by storytellers Jeff Wallock, David Haley and Ros Earthy. It is an interesting Viewpoint project funded by the National Lottery. The project will shape the future of the Confluence site, by working with local people and on how in future they wish to use it.
Thanks to a grant of £34,400 by the Heritage Lottery Fund, they are creating a living heritage for this location and for the future, by developing permanent and temporary artworks. Be part of this outdoor free event, so come with a picnic and appropriate clothing. The site can be accessed by foot from High Sands Lane across a footbridge or via Jennings Brewery. Project artist David Haley said Viewpoint Storying will explore with fun how we live with rivers, from ancient times and cultures to present social media.
