The ‘Stargazing Live’ event will be coming to Preston this month. The free stargazing event is being hosted by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) on 15th December, Tuesday, taking place at the Flyde Road car park, in Preston. The event, to be held from 6pm to 9pm, is in partnership with the Preston and District Astronomical Society (PADAS) and is being held to coincide with the launching of Tim Peake, the British astronaut, off to space to the International Space Station. The special BBC Stargazing Live event also comes out on the same night.
UCLan and PADAS experts will be at hand at the venue, to help stargazers with advice on how best to use their telescope, if brought along. Beautiful images of the night sky by PADAS, will also be showcased here. The Little Astronomer Activity Corner will have lots of hands-on star themed activities for children coming along, plus the chance to win a Galileo telescope.
The UCLan lecturer leading the free event at Preston, Dr. Joanne Pledger, said they were really excited about the growing enthusiasm and from little astronomers to amateur stargazers, there will be something for everyone. It will be a great community event and their astrophysics team will be at hand to answer questions, she added.
