A free event at Belfast, in recognition of Holocaust Memorial Day, will be presented on 24th January. The BBC documentary ‘From Belffast to Dachau’, will be screened in association with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) and DoubleBand Films, at the Movie House on Dublin Road.
Teddy Dixon, the subject of the documentary, will be attending, with the free screening to start at 6:30pm, on the Wednesday. Following the film, there will be a discussion with its film-maker Dermot Lavery and Teddy Dixon. The show will be preceded by a short film – A Stranger Smiled At Me, on behalf of the Holocaust Memorial Trust.
Teddy Dixon was raised in Belfast and later fought during the Second World War in France and Germany. He was a Rifleman in the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division of the US Army and was one of the first in 1945 to enter the notorious concentration camp of Dachau. From Belfast to Dachau follows Teddy as he returns to Dachau, re-united with his fellow servicemen, for the fist time. He is still haunted by what he saw that day in 1945.
Free tickets can be obtained in advance from the box-office of the Movie House, or got on the night of the show, on a first come, first served basis. For further information, visit the site – moviehouse.co.uk.
