Christmas shopping is a better experience in Wellingborough town, as there is free parking and convenience, the two main attributes found during a survey of shoppers. The Business Improvement District (BID) is running its Discover Wellingborough campaign, to encourage people visit the town. The Wellingborough BID commissioned the study. The study, ‘Wellingborough BID Marketing-Review’, paid for by town centre businesses, will also result in an advertising campaign to attract more people in 2015, into the town.

The survey carried out by Kerching Retail consultants, highlights the need to encourage more families to stay longer in the town centre. The research surveyed 400 people and found the free parking and convenience of getting in and around the town, as the stand-out attributes liked by the shoppers. Over 65% of people visit in a car and 77% spend lesser than 2 hours to shop. Of the visitors, 56% are women, 44% are men and 84% come alone or with 1 person to visit. BID Manager, John Cable, said the vibrant town centre is getting busier with more people coming to evens and to discover Wellingborough. He is proud of the selection of shops, green spaces, historic buildings and free parking of the town centre, he added.
