A free taster session will be hosted by Anita Ashgar, a specialist exercise instructor, on Otago strength and balance The session starts in Caterham at 3pm, on 19th September (Tuesday), at the Tandridge Trust run Stafford Sports Centre. Otago is a health programme to support people to keep them strong, independent and mobile. Health professionals use the classes to build strength into the legs, retain muscles and support those nervous of or at risk of falling. Falls for older people can be common, but often very serious consequences are easily overlooked. Most falls are due to impaired strength and balance. Only a fully tested and safe exercise programme like Otago can improve stability.
Anita Ashgar of South Godstone, who practices at the de Stafford Sports Centre in Caterham, also takes GP referrals, which includes cancer affected persons. She earlier this year was in the headiness, when she took the marathon des Sables in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. The 6-day event is about covering the distance of 6 regular marathons, running in temperatures of 58 degrees. She took to the ultimate running challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, in memory of the son of her partner, Adam Horn of Parley, who died young from cancer.
