Witney is all set to host the town’s free music festival again this year. The all-day event will be on 30th May, Saturday. In its 9th year, the town will have acoustic shows and pub gigs across the town at various venues. Organiser of the festival, Eric Marshall, said they plan to have fewer venues this time but have them packed full and aim to have a higher calibre of bands than before. More bands signed to record labels are participating this time.
The festival has signed acts like Witney’s rock threesome Twisted State of Mind. Captain Horizon and Witney-based Reejai will be there. Headlining the finale on Saturday, will be John Coghlan and the power rock of Status Quo on stage. As the festival aims to give a platform for local talent, bands will have a contest running for 6 weeks, with its winner playing on the main stage of the festival. Eric Marshall said this is a great incentive for local bands.
Witney School of Rock acts as a training ground for local musicians. Venues for the free event include – St. Mary’s Church, the Langdale Hall, Fat Lil’s, Koi Bar and the Elm Tree, there will be tattoo stalls, food, clothing stalls and also face painting.
