Google will enable free calls to landlines and mobile phone in the UK by bringing out a new update on its Google Home smart-speaker devices. Voice calling was enabled back in August in the US and now the feature is coming into UK on Google Home and Google Home Mini devices. Residents will be able to make free calls through the contacts stored in a Gmail account, or can call up firms. The voice calling facility is free as long as the user is calling on a broadband line to landlines and mobile phones in the UK, but international calls are not enabled.
The Home smart-speaker was launched by google originally in the Uk last April, exactly after 6 months of the launch of Amazon’s own such devices in the UK. Google had undercut its price at launch in the UK. For those not decided between an Amazon Echo or Google Home device this free calling feature will be attractive. Amazon had launched in September in the UK its own messaging/calling facility for its Echo devices. But Echo devices cant call mobile or lanlines for free as it supports only calling through the Alexa app or an Echo device.
