Free microchipping of dogs by Kirklees Council

February 19th, 2016 by Sandy

Microchip your dog for free, available at a number of local sessions being organised by the Kirklees Council. To ensure that pet owners meet the new legal requirement, with 6th April as date of cut-off, council dog wardens will be fitting the chips at free sessions. After the rule comes into force, non-compliance can result in prosecution and a fine of £500.

The embedded microchip will hold the dog’s address and owner’s details, which are recorded on a national database. Vets and other authorities can recover and check details, when a pet gets stolen or goes missing. The chip which is about the size of a rice grain, would be inserted under the scruff of the neck of the dog, which has to be over 12-weeks old.

The free session will be at popular dog-walking spots in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury or Birstall. Wardens will be at hand from 9am to1pm, at Oakwell Hall Visitor Centre, on 26th February, Friday: from 10am to 3pm, at Parklife Lodge, Crow Nest Park, on 8th March, Friday; and from 10am to 2pm, at Earlsheaton Park, on 5th April, Tuesday. The free sessions of dog micro-chipping gets funding from the Dogs Trust charity and saves the owners up to £30 for the service.
