The revamp of the Airmiles Free Flights and the new rules that it has brought about has caught many customers by surprise. Starting soon in the future, members who claim free flights will have to pay fuel and air taxes, and redeeming points is not going to be all free.
Following the merger of Iberia and British Airways to start the IAG – International Airlines Group, Airmiles, one of the trusted travel loyalty programs in the UK, is also going to be re-launched and named Avios. The new brand is going to be effective from the 16th of November and the Airmiles points that customers are currently having will automatically be converted to Avios points.
The Mileage Company, who run Airmiles said that though they have been offering free flights for several years in the past, the charges they have now put forth are due to unavoidable and untenable aspects of the business.
Customers can continue to book free flights via the old rules until the 15th of December. With the new system, one Avios point will be collected for every pound spent, but the number of points that would be needed for a journey is going to be different from the former terms and conditions.
