Free events lined to experience Great Landscapes Week

August 11th, 2017 by Sandy

Friends of the Lake District elvomd you to the great Cumbrian landscapes, to experience Great Landscapes Week, from 2nd to 9th September. The packed programme of events prompts you to share ideas, thoughts and your comments on the importance of landscapes, by offering a range of ways that suits every ability and interest, to experience and involve with the landscapes.

To affirm their commitment to protect the marvellous landscapes of Cumbria, Friends of the Lake District has created the Charter. It focuses on how to work and support a rich landscape in Cumbria. Douglas Chalmers from Friends of the Lake District said the launch of the charter and the week long celebration, is timely. Recent research point to the increasing detachment from the countryside, wildlife and nature of the British people, he remarked. A series of opportunities in Great Landscapes Week gives everyone the chance to engage, to think about and enjoy the blessed landscapes that surround us, he added.

Great Landscapes Week will base its free events on the five senses, namely, sight, sound, smell, taste and touch that includes activities like a bat walk, a volunteering fell care day, a meet with Fell Ponies, a poetry and photography masterclass and a well-being day. To submit your own pledge in support and upload images to enter the photo competition of Great-landscapes-week and for more information go the the website- greatlandscapesweek.org.uk.
