The 50th Harrogate Festival being hosted this July will see some of the biggest names in literature and music headline this year. The Harrogate Orchestra will give pop-up performances and there will be free events being held across the town, where music created in Harrogate by composers Finz and Farrar will be featured. This Spa town in North Yorkshire, England, will witness a month-long festival of music and literature. The Times has named it ‘North of England’s leading arts festival’.
Alfred Brendel, lead living legend, who first performed in the 1974 festival, gets welcomed back. Julian Lloyd Webber who began his career as a young musician at the festivals, will be the guest curator and will be developing the young musicians series. Saleem Ashkar is the artist in residence and he will demonstrate the power of classical music, bridging the divides found between Jewish and Arab communities in Israel, with the Polyphony Foundation.
