Free events at Leicester’s City Festival 2018

Leicester’s City Festival is being celebrated from 17th August to 27th August 2018. The festival is in its sixth year and celebrated for 11 days which brings exciting and unique events joining the festival like dancing in the street, arts etc. There will also be performances of street artists from national and interenational locations for four days. Other favourite events returning this year will be Belgrave Mela, Let’s Ride, Journeys festival international, old town festival and cosmopolitan carnival and many more. So the festival will be fun filled events of culture, art, music, sports and entertainments and most of the events are free.

City Festival will be surrounded around Humberstone Gate West, Gallowtree Gate and the Clock Tower to make it to feel the festival atmosphere in the city. There will be screening of a Bollywood blockbuster movie on Friday August 11 at the Outdoor Cinema from 7.30 pm to 11 pm.

The Cosmopolitan Carnival will take place on Saturday – 18th August with packed programme of music, dance and arts at Jubilee Square, the Clock Tower, High Street and Humberstone from 2 pm to 9.30 pm. Leicester Belgrave Mela will start from Monday August 19 between 11 am to 6 pm and events include South Asian music, dance, arts and food and with UK’s biggest shopping bazaar in the city centre.

A new programme called Dancing in the Streets will be joining throughout the festival which gives an opportunity for the visitors to take up free taster sessions for various dances from ballroom to swing. These will take place from Monday – 20th August to Saturday – 25th August.

Street festival of 4 days interactive arts and skate park will take place in the city streets from Wednesday 22nd August to Saturday- 25th August. There will be various workshops and music will be celebrated by the Journeys Weekender to celebrate influences around the world on August 25 & 26.

The event ‘Shh…It’s St Martin’s Square Sunday’ will be held on Sunday – August 26 with full fun of entertainment at independent shops of the city from 12 noon to 7 pm. On the last day of festival, Monday – August 27 event with the Old Town Family Day will be held at Jubilee Square to bring fun and entertainment activities with history themed and a tented village which will run from 11 am to 5 pm.

Cllr Piara Singh Clair – Leicester Deputy City Mayor said that with 11 days of free and family-friendly oriented events and activities in the city centre will be there to celebrat e City Festival in a wonderful way to enjoy the school summer holidays. There will be many events of arts, music and many more for all ages.
