There has been a free information event organized on Saturday – April 13, 2019 at St Paul’s Church, St Paul’s Road, Thornton Heath CR7 8NB. The well being event has been organized by Croydon Social P on raising awareness on the support available after diagnosed cancer and will run from 1.30 pm to 4 pm on the day.
The free event named as “Cancer Wellbeing – Living the best life you possibly can in the world of cancer” is the inspiration of Cheryl Johnson. The event will have various talks and workshops on how to live well with cancer that include demo on healthy eating (by local chef Courney Bogle), sessions on art and mindfulness etc.
There will also be a free workshop on skin care by Look Good Feel Better to the cancer patients. Mindfulness sessions will be led by a local practitioner Peter Lawrence and various ideas on art for well being will be shared by professional art therapists. There will be various information stalls by various cancer organizations, some of them are Croydon cancer charity, the Duffus Cancer Foundation and many others.
Cheryl said that most of these charities offer free services and need to be signposted to them. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she found these services to help her and hence she wants to share the information with others in the area also.
The cancer affected kids and youngsters will be offered support by the Duffus Cancer Foundation. Free sim cards & recycled mobiles have been offered by Yoursim Pal whereas Penny Brohn UK provides free support, therapy and living well courses at their retreat centre. Other will include Macmillan Cancer Support giving awareness & support to the patients and Croydon Central Library & Lush Croydon provide handmade fragrances and cosmetics.
Cheryl added that the main purpose of the event to bring awareness through Social Prescribing of the support which is available in Croydon. Such an event will really be helpful as important as the diagnosis and treatment too.
There will be provided with free refreshments and goodie bags for all participants. The talks will happen between 1.30 pm to 2 pm and workshops will be on between 2 to 4pm. As the places are limited, please register by contacting 07494 177696 or sending an email to cheryljohnson@croydonsocialp.com.
