The seventieth year of St Patrick’s Day Festival has been organized this year and falling on Sunday – March 17, 2019. The free event is celebrated in Trafalgar Square, Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DN. The events will run from 12 pm to 6 pm on the day.
Every year, March 17 will be marked as a special day and being celebrated by the Ireland people for one of their patron saints St. Patrict. They have declared the day as a national holiday in Ireland with a traditional festival. However in London, though this is not declared as a holiday, but the celebrations will be happening across London which attracts around 1.25k people on the festival day.
There will be a parade and festival will take place at Trafalgar Square and central London. The day will be full of events that mark the heritage of Irish food, arts, culture, songs, dances and music. The theme of the year is #LondonIsOpen.
Parade in London:
There will be an amazing parade of elaborate floats, flamboyant pageantry and marching bands. They will be from UK, Irish dance schools and sports clubs. The parade will begin from Piccadilly at the noon going along 2.4 km passing through some important landmarks of London which includes The Ritz, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.
Festival in Trafalgar Square
On the main day of celebrations, you can enjoy various performances of Irish acts, special guests and stars. The festival arena will have craft stalls and traditional & modern Irish food market to enjoy more. There will be a family zone that will have children friendly free activities and entertainment etc on Pall Mall East.
The event will be hosted by Bosco and Angela Scanlon and the stage line up will have the performances of Bosco DJ Birthday Set, McGahan Lees Irish Dancers, Jacquelyn Hynes, Sample Answer, Feith An Cheoil, Hungry Grass, Track Dogs, Don Mescall and Band and Massaoke – Sing-a-long.
Walking Tours:
There will be a walking tour happening on the day at 10.30 am at The String Broke and at 2 pm at The Emerald City which both depicts the heritage and history of Irish city and culture. It is free but advance booking is required. For booking, please contact Tony McDonnell on 07850 184790.
