A free event is being planned on 13th January, 2016, at the Doncaster Racecourse, as a community roadshow event in line with the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire. This event will outline how the local communities of Doncaster will be able to get involved in the cycling event. Doncaster will be hosting the finishing leg of Tour de Yorkshire. The roadshow is being hosted by Welcome to Yorkshire, to outline some of the logistics of the event. It will use past experiences of host locations to involve communities here in a range of ways and to capitalise on the visitors, plus showcase the borough. Doncaster will host the inaugural women’s race and the Tour de Yorkshire’s finishing leg.
Councillor Bill Mordue, cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, expressed how previous host towns got involved and was confident Doncaster would do the same. The roadshow will help in making 30th April one of the best days of 2016, he remarked. The free event, the roadshow hosted by Welcome to Yorkshire, is open to residents to book a place (at the Eventbrite website). The event will see representatives from parish councils, Doncaster councillors, community groups and local schools attending.
