A free event will be hosted at CowesYacth Haven to give an opportunity to people of all ages to try out sailing and boating activities, corresponding to the On The Water Day 2015, on 29th May. The Programme runs on the day from 10:00am to 4:00pm, which includes demonstrations conducted by RNLI and Royal Yacht Squadron. Hosted by the British Maritime Federation (BMF), Isle of Wight, the On The Water initiative is set at the marina, a place synonymous to international sailing events like the Round the Island Race and the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. There will be entertainment for the whole family and Island-built boats will be showcased. A flare amnesty to dispose off out-of-date flares by seafarers, is also expected at the marina.
BMF’s initiative On The Water, is to encourage people, as many as possible, to get involved into boating activities. Whether it be sailing, inland boating or kayaking, the programme aims to break down barriers for people to enter water-sports. More information at website- onthewater.co.uk. Cowes Yacht Haven’s managing director, Jon Pridham, said they are happy to welcome the free event again and is a great way to showcase the different pastimes and sports found in sailing and boating.
