Free event for farmers on rural safety

The National Farmer’s Union (NFU) and rural safety team of Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, are joining hands to run a free event which corresponds with the Open Farm Sunday. On 7th June, Sunday, farmers of Wiltshire will be invited to the free event that will help to keep their rural businesses safe. The ‘farm walk’ designed for farmers to show them how to mitigate risks, also against a range of fire hazards, plus other risks.

The rural safety event will cover subjects such as- storage of acetylene and its misuse and of other gases; hazards of toxic gases and other chemicals, safe storage of fertilizers; Wiltshire Police on rural crimes; dangers in welding and other hot works; and requirements of Regulatory Reform(Fire Safety) Order.

There will be a static display on large animal rescue by the Fire & Rescue Service and the prevention team will talk about dangers of playing in farms to youngsters. The Open Farm Sunday will have family activities like pony rides, display of old and new farm machinery, farm animals and horse & cart rides. The free event will also have farm games, quizzes, a licensed bar, hog roast, other refreshments and a mystery trail.
