Free entry to Nottingham Castle

Visiting the famous castle, Nottingham Castle is free now from Monday – June 25th to Sunday – July 1st, 2018 and there will be many programmes of free activities & events during the week to mark the significant of the old castle’s heritage. The castle will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on all the above days and the last entry will be allowed at 4 pm on 1st July.

The place will be closed for two years for renovation and improvements to make it as one of the world class tourist attractions. It would include redesigning the grounds, constructing a new visitor centre, new galleries for Rebellion and Robinhood with their history, bringing ways/ access to many of the caves lying under the castle and improving art displays etc. The transformation (£30m) will be funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund Nottingham Castle Trust, D2N2 and the City council.

The schedule of events on the week are:

  • New Ideas from the visitors for building a time capsule from June 25 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Ducal Palace
  • Gallery Exhibition from June 25 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at the Gallery Spaces & South Hall.
  • A chance to meet the archaeologist in the Service Courtyard from June 25 to June 29 on 2 pm every day.
  • An illustrated talk by Dr Richard Gaunt who tells about Nottingham’s rebellious history and the role of castle on June 25 at 12 noon.
  • From June 26 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Long Gallery, LEGO Big Build along with Warren Elsmore to re-create the Castle.
  • A curator Talk by the exhibition officer about the works of Harold and Laura Knight on June 29 at 12 noon at the Long Gallery
  • A Curator Talk by Louise Dunning on Nottingham’s Medieval Alabasters on June 27 at 12 noon a the History Gallery.
  • Curator Talk by Deborah Dean on points on Landscape Paintings on June 28 at 12 noon at the Long Gallery.
  • Meet some of the historical characters at the castle from June 30 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm.
  • Archery event from June 30 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Outer Bailey.
  • Face painting from June 30 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Bandstand.
  • Demonstrations of the weapons in the castle from June 30 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Outer Bailey
  • Falconry display from June 30 to July 1 between 10 am to 5 pm at Castle Green
  • LEGO Big Build completion on July 1 at 4 pm at the Long Gallery.

There will still be cave tours available at regular charges.
