Over the next few weeks, the Stratford District Council will be organising a series of microchiping events for pet owners. As per new government rules, all dogs must be microchipped by 6th April. Owners not complying to it, potentially face fines of up to £500.

The dates and venues are as follows- On 2 February at Stratford Police Station; on 3 February in Shipston at Sheldon Bosley Hub; on 8 February in Southam at Graham Adams Centre; on 10 February at Memorial Hall in Welford; on 16 February at Crawford Memorial Hall in Bidford; on 17 February at Wellesbourne’s Methodist Church,; on 19 Februrary at St Andrews Centre in Shottery; on 23 February (Tuesday) at Jubilee Centre in Alcester.

The council has organised the events ahead of the new law coming into force. The microchipping events will be held from 10.30pm to 1.30pm, on given dates. The first 20 slots are for free. Subsequently, slots will be charged per dog- £5 + VAT. The event will provide information too about dog walking etiquette, dog fouling, also on worrying livestock and on nuisance barking. The ‘Eyes and Paws’ campaign will be discussed by Lucy Lambert, who is rural-crime coordinator of the council, will be at hand. The law, hopefully, will help to reunite lost or stolen dogs with its owners. At the same time, it could shift some of the burden off animal charities and local authorities, hope the ministers.
