Wellington’s Christmas lights event is expected to attract over 2,000 revellers into the Market Square of this town in Somerset, this Saturday (25 November). The annual free Christmas Lights switch-on event will include a Chinese dragon display this weekend and will feature market stalls hosted by over 100 traders, offering gifts and food. There’s entertainment by MC Paul Shuttleworth and Geoff Rodgers, fair rides, a Father Christmas grotto, including a free lantern parade workshop for a parade to be led by Santa and the Wellington Brass Band playing a carol composed by Henry Gauntlett, Hilbrae Kennels will be hosting a well dressed dog competition and pet owners can register their pets ahead, at 1:30pm, before the parade at 2:00pm.
Councillor Den Allen, Mayor of Wellington, will switch on the lights at 5pm, to mark the start of the free event and celebrations. Chair of the council’s promotions committee, Councillor Lee Carter, said he was sure the big showcase event and programme of entertainment, would attract family crowds on the day. This is a brilliant free event and an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the atmosphere, while supporting local businesses, in the historic market town, he added. Caroline Mulvihill from the Wellington Town Council, anticipated a busy and happy day at a historic town centre that adds magic to the festivities and proceedings.
