In an attempt to support package to returning and new students, free bus transport is offered by Cornwall College. The free transport for the students will be made available from September onwards. Scheme known as Learner Support Bursary Fund can be applied by students aged 16 to 18. This initiative will cover the bus costs of the students for a year. Students who reside three miles from the college and in families with yearly income lower than £31,000, alone are eligible to apply for the free bus transport scheme.
College’s corporate head of learner services, Peter Sampson said that the scheme is offered as the existing will not get the Education Maintenance Allowance from next academic year onwards. He said that this is offer is better than previous schemes with a higher annual income.
Students coming from low income families need not bother about their transport costs while coming to college. With this offer several number of students aged 16 to 18 can benefit. Students studying in Camborne, Newquay, Saltash, St Austell campuses, Duchy College, Climsland and Rosewarne, and Falmouth Marine School can apply for this scheme. Students who are not suitable for the free bus transport will have to pay £300 for this academic year to access the college transport.
