Free bike fix at open workshop sessions in Devonport

March 10th, 2015 by Sandy

Keen cyclists can bring in their bikes, to fix them, at the free workshop sessions in Devonport. The unique Open Workshop sessions are run by Bikespace CIC, on the first Wednesday of every month, from 6PM to 9PM. They are held at Devonport’s Bikespace Workshop in Unit 4, in Riverside Business-Park, New Passage Hill.

The sessions are aimed at those with a little mechanical know-how and gives an opportunity to meet other cyclists and friends. Bikespace is a Community Interest Company and works to motivate young people who are struggling to get mainstream education across the city. They work not-for-profit and have a vocational training centre in Devonport, with also a bicycle shop in George Street. They train young people as bike mechanics and also offer the chance to go out on cycling adventures.

Gareth Thomas at Bikespace said the sessions are really good if one has attended their Saturday CTC Maintenance Courses. Theses are free workshop sessions with no charges and the Open Workshop, although aimed at adults, also offers fun and beneficial sessions or projects to the young people, he added. He mentioned that Marcus and John, trained mechanics, are there to help, although the sessions are aimed at people with some mechanical knowledge.
