The Sunderland International Airshow will be launched on 24th July, Friday, with the traditional evening launch part at Cliffe Park. This year’s free air-show event, considered as the biggest free event in the North East, will be held over the weekend falling on 25th (Saturday) and 26th (Sunday) of July, at Roker and Seaburn. The event by Sunderland City Council is presented by Sunderland Live, the events company. The air-show attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators to Sunderland’s scenic coastline.
Following the opening event, the air-show continues over the weekend, with displays on all 3 days from The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (RAF BBMF) commemorating this year the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The RAF BBMF at the Sunderland International Airshow includes a variety of historic aircraft like the Dakota and de Haviland Canada Chipmunks, with an Avro Lancaster, Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire on display. Included again this year are a big range of aircraft plus display teams, with the Typhoon-FGR 4 here too. Once again the The Red Arrows, of the Royal Air-force Aerobatic Team, will thrill the spectators at the free event. Subject to weather and operational restrictions, the RAF BBMF display timings and other attractions would be confirmed only nearer to the weekend dates.
