To mark the 40th Anniversary of the Scottish Youth Theatre of Glasgow, registration is open for young aspiring Scottish actors, to join one of the most exciting new programmes of the country. The one year course is open to those 16 to 25 years old, and who want to pursue a career in the acting and creative industries. For the first time, the Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) will not be charging participation fees for anyone managing to secure a place on the programme, which has only 20 spaces available.
The auditions and rehearsals will take place across Scotland, but the majority of of the workshop time would be at The Old Sheriff Court, which is SYT’s headquarters on Bromswick Street in Glasgow. SYT which is forming the new national ensemble, has produced one the country’s greatest acting talents. The famous stars, like Kate Dickie of Game of Thrones fame and Colin McCredie of Taggart, appeared at a party hosted by the group, to show their support.
Artistic director at SYT, Mary McCluskey, when speaking of the importance of diversity in the arts, said the new programme is about breaking the barriers in acting and those making into the 2017 programme, would be provided bursaries to travel far for the monthly rehearsals, with no fees charged. SYT is all about diversity, she added, and this programme will achieve that certainly at the free workshop.
