This year’s festival of the arts, fit for all ages, the River Weekender, is all set to run from 15th to 17th September. This is the fourth River Weekender and part of the Totally Thames Festival. It is inspired by the river and held by the river at the Watermans Arts Centre, Brentford.
This year’s packed programme includes Osadia, an extraordinary hair sculpture team. This year Watermans brings you ‘Watermans With Words’, in partnership with ArchWay With Words Book Festival of North London. The event brings in captivating speakers and new writing. Caitlin Davies and Iain Sinclair will present their latest books. Vintage recordings of the life on the river will be present by Ian Rawes. London poets and MA writers from the Central School of Speech and Drama will perform all around Watermans. AVM Curiosities will take guests on Saturday, on an olfactory and tasting tour, through the ages, of the river.
Other events include a new exhibition in partnership with Totally Thames- Working River. It explores the history of boatyards in London, via oral history and Hydar Dewachi’s photography. Another is an illuminated installation- Future Dust, by Maria Arceo, about plastic river waste. An interactive journey down the river- Mr Gumpy’s Outing, is for families. Liquid Opera will introduce opera to your kids for the first time, with an ending outdoor performance on the Riverside Terrace of Watermans. It is also the location for Outdoor Cinema for two nights. Enjoy the cinema as the sun sets over the river, by picking up a chair and drink for a tenner. Although the majority are free events, there are some ticketed events too. Full listings will be posted online from 1st August.
