One of Dundee’s biggest music events, the Dundee Dance Event, is getting back to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The free event returning in May, is to be bigger and better than ever before. The event which started in 1998, will be held on 5th and 6th May this year and is a way to showcase local and resident DJs who didn’t get opportunities at the local clubs and bars.
The event is expected to be fully packed and is for a good cause too. It raised for the Motor Neuron Disease Scotland charity, over £1,600 last year and it saw nearly 8,000 people turn up. Organisers hope it will be even bigger this year.
According to organiser Mike McDonald, with 25 venues confirmed and some 150 artists and DJs, from across Scotland, but a majority from Dundee, the event will be the biggest to date. He said the event will take place over the whole weekend for the first-time, with Diaper Disco and Under 18s in The Union, DUSA, and the Northern Soul in Bonar Hall, all day long, all on Saturday. On Sunday, the main event will take place as usual, he added.
Mike McDonald said every Scotland city will have DJ representation and some of the promoters hosting venues include Groovement, State of Grace, Trashdisco and Hector’s House. The organiser remarked that events like these give music lovers an opportunity to hear some of Scotland’s best resident DJs, playing for hours, across many venues and it doesn’t happen in any other UK city. Apex Dundee has partnered with the free event to provide offers on hotel rooms.
