Dartmoor Folk Festival to celebrate its 40th Anniversary

The Dartmoor Folk Festival will take place, celebrating its 40th anniversary, at the Foothills of Dartmoor at South Zeal, close to Okehampton. The folk festival has grown over the years to become one of the top family-friendly folk celebrations found in the South East. This year it will be celebrated from 11th to 13th August, with a packed programme holding many activities and events for all ages.

The festival will have music, song and dance competitions and workshops, music hall, concerts, dances and dance displays, craft displays, a ceilidh, a Dartmoor Fayre and pub sessions. Local and international artists will participate during the weekend and many favourites of previous festivals will return for the anniversary. There’ll be many free events which includes a youth music session, a ramble on Dartmoor, a folk club, a starter’s song session and a church service.

The event includes the very successful children’s festival running alongside. The entertainment includes Furringers Puppet Theatre, Dan the Hat, Entertainingly Different and Magic Martin. Dance teams performing include Tinners Morris, Cogs and Wheels, Hook Eagle Morris, Mayflowers Morris and Bampton Traditional Morris. Guests appearing include Fay Hield and The Hurricane Party, The Jim Causley Trio, Jackie Gates, Keith Donnelly, the Dartmoor Pixie Band and many others.
