Free Family RidesYoungsters as well as oldies who can ride a bike can avail of free training courses on Wokingham.

Cycles rides for whole family, that include training classes for kids and cycling lessons for those people over fifty years of age will be conducted throughout the summer.

These free rides for the family will be held every Saturday morning from 10am to 12 noon commencing on 30th June and ending on September 8th.

The rides would begin and end at Dragonfly Café at Dinton Pastures Country Park, located at Davies Street, in Hurst.

The objective of these free cycle rides is to help new cyclists who hardly have any experience and will be carried out by the council’s trained hands. The rides would be just at the right pace to ensure that everyone participating will be involved.

Participants can select their routes that begin with short and simple rides and those who would like to go on to the longer routes would be welcome to do so.

Entry age for kids is eight years and they must be accompanied by a parent or any other adult. Use of a cycle helmet is mandatory.

Rides are absolutely free however team members of Road Safety have suggested that interested people book their place ahead of the rides so that they have an fair idea of the number of cyclists that would be on the roads.

Interested candidates can book for the ride by getting in touch with Jill Bissell, the cycle training co-ordinator by calling her on (0118) 08 8208 or email the co-ordinator at jill.bissell@wokingham.gov.uk

The lessons on cycling for the over-50s are a part of the SHINE programme to encourage healthy workouts.

These training classes for the over-50 will commence in parks in the locality on Tuesday 12 June starting at Cantley Park in Wokingham at 2 pm and ending at 4 pm, at Chalfont Park, Lower Earley on Wednesday 4th July from 10 am to 12 noon, and at Woodford Park, Woodley on Friday the 17th of August between 10am to 12 noon.

The training co-ordinator Jill Bissell stated that there a plenty of people who have never ridden a cycle for many years and do not have the confidence to do so any more.

She said that via these family rides and the training classes for the above-50s they anticipate that people will start attempting to cycle all over again and experience again the excitement and thrills that this sport can give them, while at the same time make sure that they are absolutely safe on the roads.
