Cornwall to open first Catholic Secondary free school

Cornwall Free Secondary SchoolIt has been reported by the staff that its first Catholic secondary free school would be opened in Cornwall on the 3rd of September.

The Department of Education has allowed St. Michael’s Catholic School in Truro, free status and the school would be funded by the department.

The school will be located on the same site as the former Camborne Girls’ Grammar School, and it will have the capacity for hundred children.

Since the Camborne Girls’ Grammar School closed down in the year 1997, the location was utilized till of late as a Sure Start centre for children.

The head teacher of St. Michael’s, Mr. Neil Anderson stated that a lot of discussions were held with primary schools situated in west Cornwall, the main share holders as well as parents.

He said that the responses they received revealed that there was urgent need for a smaller school that provided learning particularly based on religion.

As per the staff, this would be the premier Catholic free school in the United Kingdom for secondary studies.

Mr. Anderson also remarked that the team members of the St. Michael’s school had been invited by various other Catholic educational institutions from throughout the UK to offer counsel regarding the development of more free schools.
