Continental and Mercedes offer free tests of winter tyres

February 12th, 2016 by Sandy

Get to know the benefits of winter tyres at the wheel! A free taster session is being offered by Continental Tyres, on 13th February (Saturday) and 21st February (Sunday), at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey.

Test their latest generation of Continental winter tyres in a 20-minute Driving Experience on two cars. One car is fitted with summer tyres and the other has winter tyres on. Test them on a simulated ice surface, for free. Get a first-hand experience of the big difference in stopping distances! Vehicles on winter tyres come to a stop on a snow-covered road after 35 meters (at 30mph). Normal tyres require 43 metres, at 8 metres more. Winter tyres don’t harden in lower temperatures (below +7°C), so give better grip and stopping ability, thus better safety.

Some research by Continental found nearly 47% of motorists in UK lack awareness about winter tyres. The Department of Transport found that 48% of car accidents are caused by skidding in the winter. Comparatively, it is only 11% in dry weather. Mercedes-Benz World is the brand experience centre offering an interactive world of heritage, values, passion and innovation.
