Scotland’s annual national book gifting programme, Bookbug Week, will run from 15 May to 21 May. The annual celebration will have hundreds of free events across the country for children and babies. Bookbug’s Big Giggle is this year’s theme. A fun and playful theme, it encourages both parents and carers to share with children, playful stories and songs. The theme highlights laughter as essential to building bonds and for well-being, for them.
Big Giggle themed events will be held in every local authority, with UK’s most-loved children’s illustrators and authors giving special appearances. Alex T. Smith will be streamed live from the Author’s Live event , that can be watched, on 17 May (Wednesday), by schools and nurseries tuning in. Throughout the week, Bookbug prizes will also be available for grabs.
Flagship events will be held on 17 May, at Calendar House (in Falkirk) and on 19 May (Friday), at Carnegie Library (in Dunfermline), both from 10am to 2pm. An arts workshop led by Kasin Matyjaszek, the illustrator, will be held at both events. Paisley Central Library will host their first Bookbug Gigglethon. Any time in the day, families can experience here stories, rhymes and fun songs.
Bookbug is part of Early Years Programme by Scottish Book Trust, funded by Scotland’s government. Families can get details of the free events during Bookbug Week in their area, by visiting the site- scottishbooktrust.com/bookbugweek, or their local library.
