Biggest free Hogmanay party to be hosted at Inverness

Organisers predict Inverness the Highland capital will be hosting Scotland’s largest free Hogmanay party. On Thursday, 31 December, revellers will descend on the capital city to bid goodbye to 2015 and start 2016 in celebration, at he the Northern Meeting Park, which will host the “Red Hot Highand Fling”.

A huge crowd is expected to arrive to watch events taking place on the stage, which include a line-up of “auld acquaintances”, folk-rock bands like Skerryvore and Breabach, legend Cpercaille for Celtic music and Craig Hill, the kilted comedian. The crowd will get treated to a fireworks display at midnight and then join the traditional Auld Lang Syne sing-along.

This free event run by the Highland Council to mark the end of the Inverness Winter Festival, is sponsored by Inverness Common Good Fund. Chairwoman of Inverness events and festivals working-group, Councillor Glynis Sinclair, said 2015 has been an amazing year and the perfect climax to the annual festivals programme is “the Red Hot Highland Fling”.

The police’s event commander, Chief Inspector Iain MacLelland, said this is a family event and advised to drink alcohol responsibly, ensure supervision of children always, stay with family and friends together and plan how to get home later in advance.
