The Bangor Music Festival is returning this year with the theme – Space. On 2nd and 3rd of February, a number of free events will be held that will inspire the whole family, giving all a unique opportunity to explore planets, stars, space and galaxies, via the medium of science and music.
Events include the Bangor Stargazing Experience, where Liverpool John Moores University’s expert, Andrew Newsman, will guide visitors to peer at the stars, planets and moon, through a powerful telescope. Take a tour of the night sky with the Planetarium Event, explaining the night sky organisation with stories about individual star constellations.
Children of ages from 4 to 7 years can join a fun music workshop. The basics of music will be introduced to kids using games and songs. There’s also the improvised Musical instrument session, suitable for any musical ability or age, with Bangor University Fusion Ensemble members.
Zubin Kanga will present ‘The Music of the Spheres’ in a concert. There are also festival commissions by Claire Victoria Roberts, Maja Palser, Patric Nunn and George Crumb. Live electronic sounds will take centre stage led by Scott Wilson and followed by others. Local instrumentalists and Bangor New Music Ensemble will be performing too.
A highlight of the festival is the performance by BEER, the Birmingham Ensemble of Electroacoustic Research, which involves a unique collaboration with CERN in Switzerland. Although free events, you can book and find more info at the website of Bangor Music Festival (banormusicfestival.org.uk).
