The Southampton city centre festival, previously known as ‘Bandstand Live’, will return renamed as the ‘Southampton City Live’ event this summer and planned for 13th May. This free event staged around Palmerston Park’s bandstand, aims to provide for local music talents and stalls for arts and crafts. The event is being arranged by Southampton Solvent University, Voice FM Radio and Matt Bunday Events. Event manager Matt Bunday’s previous events include Music in the City, the Titanic 100 commemoration event and Southampton Passion.
The SoCo Introducing Programme by the SoCo music project will put up new musicians. Voice FM will run the ‘Homegrown Stage’. Performance, production and marketing will be done by the university students. Bands confirmed include Bobby Lovejoy Band, The Diamond Age and Calum Lintott.
Matt Bunday said the exciting project will provide the city’s own artistd and bands a place for their music and skills, plus a great day for the family. He added that they are building on the Bandstand Live success of 2 years to turn this festival into something bigger. Changing the name of the free event to Southampton City Live shows their ambition to grow and to be proud of it, he remarked.
