The Ashfield Ladies Rugby Club is encouraging more people to play rugby using the free rounders, particularly for women,to get them involved in the sport. The club is running free rounder taster events starting Monday (16th June) and goes on for six weeks until 7th July (Monday), from 7.15pm to 8.45pm, at Sutton Lawn, near the Skate park.
The organisers have been really surprised by the level of interest being shown, as over 40 women turned up for the first session. The rounder sessions are open to any women interested, of any age, and attendance afterwards is not a criteria as it’s only if they wish to play. The rugby club’s designated Rounder Activator leads the rounder sessions. Rounder Activators are provided with equipment and training by the Rounders England governing body.
Mandy Taylor of Sutton is Ashfield Ladies’ team captain. She’s been playing rugby for 20 years. She hopes the rounder sessions will make more women to get involved in the sport.
