Addison Lee, the private hire company, announced that its vehicles will offer free high-speed broadband to customers on-board, yes, at no extra cost. The company recently completed a trial, in which 150 of their cars were enabled with 4G connectivity. They found customers thrilled by the connectivity in-cab.
The London-based Addison Lee will rollout the in-cab 4G service into all its 4,800 vehicles. With the Ford Galaxy and VIP fleet getting access first, the company expects the 4G rollout to be completed by 2015. Addison Lee will not charge anything for it. You’ll get free high-speed broadband, offering up to 12Mbps upload and download speeds. Send emails, log into Skype, download an episode in minutes, all while you ride in the cab. Addison Lee calls itself as the largest minicab company in London and has been carrying out trials of in-car snacks and meals too.
Liam Griffin, CEO of Addison Lee, said they are an industry leader for in-car experience and the 4G service will help customers get connected better for work or play. Their passengers are number-one priority and this offering will make a big difference to them, he added. The company is working hard to stand out, as it faces stiff competition from the likes of Uber and other expanding start-ups.
