How good would it be if you could read reviews as you shop? This is the idea that Tesco Supermarket are trying to implement, to help their customers experience better shopping. Tesco are currently testing Wi-Fi connectivity in four of its stores and are planning to soon roll it out to all Tesco outlets across the UK. With around 2,700 stores, Tesco would be the first supermarket in the UK to offer Free Wi-Fi to shoppers.

While a few customers already use mobile broadband, Tesco say that providing free Wi-Fi inside stores would allow users with smartphones and laptops to access product information, compare and check prices and also read reviews before they buy any product. This project would also help Tesco perk up their business. McNamara, CIO, Tesco, said that the service would be completely free. He also added that Tesco has already been using Wi-Fi connectivity for its technical operations, and hence the project would not require a start from the base, as the infrastructure is already up and running.

The free Wi-Fi connectivity is right now available in four outlets and based on the results of the test, Tesco would soon enforce it across its other stores too. Though a few retailers and supermarket chains in the US offer free Wi-Fi to consumers, Tesco claim that they are the first of the kind in Britain. This piece of work would also significantly increase the total number of Wi-Fi access points in the whole of UK.
