Aberdeen Festival of Lights gets a new additional after-hours event in the new year 2017! Organisers have announced an after-hours music programme with a stage at the rooftop of the St. Nicholas Centre, featuring local bands and performers, to entertain crowds at the bandstand. Music and light will be combined, in a new show by DJs and Vjs, that will take the festival into the after-hours of the night.
True North is collaborating with SPECTRA to create Aberdeen’s festival of music and song arranged by Aberdeen Performing Arts. The festival will run from 9th to 12th February, celebrates with this year’s theme of ‘A New Light ‘, as part of the Scottish Year of History and Archaeology that explores Aberdeen’s past on this theme. The kirk of St. Nicholas, Marisch College and the Union Terrace Gardens will be illuminated for the festival.
The internationally known CLOUD sculpture by Caitlind r.c. Browne and Wayne Garrett, is induced in this year’s highlights, which is to celebrate Scotland’s invention of the incandescent light bulb. The free event encourages the audience to engage with the spaces by accessing playful, high quality performances, the works of light & sound and other interactive experiences. The deputy leader of the city council, Councillor Marie Boulton, said this excellent example of collaboration is why SPECTRA is a highlight on the Aberdeen calendar.
