The Devizes Carnival and International Street Festival promises to be huge entertainment this year in Wiltshire. The Festival is on 24 August, Sunday, to be held on The Green and in the Market place on 25 August, Monday. In its third year, the street festival is covering again 2 days plus a Sunday nigh show this time. There will be some thirty-four acts and bands giving performances at the festival. A 6-metre Iron Puppet will be there. It is an adaptation of Iron Giant (by Ted Hughes) . Four Carnage-Productions performers would be abseiling down the Town-Hall.
Organising this big free event is Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA). To have strong participation it’s forming a street band with local people performing and a lead-off procession. Organisers are running workshops for colourful costume creation for people. Workshops will be on 26, 27, 28 & 29 August at Crown-Centre, at St.John’s street. Call 07880 239598 to book, as places are few. DOCA had received a big grant for the carnival and street festival from the Arts Council, this time.
