The South Gloucestershire Council and Dodington Parish Council, along with Wapley Bushes Conservation Group, will be organising on 13th July (Sunday), between 10AM & 12 Noon, a free workshop at the local nature reserve of Wapley Bushes, aiming to preserve the traditional skills needed for maintaining orchards. A local expert will be at hand to answer questions of visitors and show them how to prune fruit trees. Graham White, the expert with specialist knowledge in unique tree varieties of South Gloucestershire will demonstrate.
Anyone interested to know about the local varieties such as the Magnum Plum, found only in Frampton Cotterell and Winterborough, and interested in preserving such plum trees or soft fruit trees are welcome. There’s no booking and those who like to attend the free workshop can meet at Wapley Rank cottages. The meeting point faces the southern entrance of Benson Lane leading to Wapley Bushes. Partnerships and delivery officer, South Gloucestershire Council, John Morris, says that to preserve fruit tree orchards, such training for people on such skills is essential, as orchards are part of an important wildlife habitat.
