Free Workshop on Window-Blinds Cords accidents

May 18th, 2014 by Sandy

A free workshop on the dangers and accidents caused by window blinds cords is being held on 5th June. Venue is the St. Josephs Early-Years Centre, Ballyena (Doury Road). This workshop by Sure Start will begin at 2:00pm. The free RoSPA workshop aims to increase awareness on the potential dangers of window blinds cords and ways in which the risk can be reduced. The session is being organised by the Ballymena Borough Council with the Public Health Agency, in partnership with Northern Ireland’s Home Accident Prevention.

Although the focus will be on blinds cords safety, the 2-hour session will also address other accident types that cause strangulation or choking accidents and suffocation risks. A toddler can strangulate on tangled blind cords and die in as little as 20 seconds. Many houses throughout the province have thousands of blinds cords. All are welcome to attend, including people from the window blinds trade, those working in voluntary or community services linked to children and for parents and older persons caring for children. As places are limited at the workshop, please contact on or by 23rd May, to reserve a place. Email:shauna.lagan@ballymena.gov.uk. Or phone to- 25660394.
