Memory Matters will be conducting free sessions for up to eight persons experiencing memory loss or Dementia. Funding is by Plymouth Community Healthcare and the series of sessions are called Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) sessions.
The trainers on the Plymouth Community Healthcare funded sessions are trained nurses from Memory Matters – South West. Nurses Kate Smith and Laura Walker will conduct the programme that consists of 45 minute sessions. run twice weekly across 7 weeks, to be held in Mount Gould at the Plymouth Age Concern. It is suitable for people living with Dementia in their own homes, but are able to participate in group therapy. No cure can be claimed for this condition, but it is possible to slow down degeneration through therapy. CST has proven to improve memory and the patient’s quality of life. Dementia is a challenge for UK’s ageing population, as it affects some 800,000 people.
