Jupiter Drive Free SchoolHighfield district of Hemel Hempstead will soon get a free school just 5 years after three primary schools were cut down by education bosses on account of the decreasing number of pupil. Among the three schools, Jupiter Drive Primary is one of them that were closed by the council chiefs during the year 2007. Ever since this, millions of pounds have been spent in order to meet the increasing demand of other primary schools. Initiatives are being taken to open a new free school in the year 2014 in Jupiter Drive Primary site.

West Herts Community Free Schools Trust along with the partnership of Herts County Council will lead the project. This new school will be started in two forms initially and then more kids will be admitted gradually filling up the school by the year 2020. During a meeting held, the organisation of Mrs Jones which opened a new school at Hatfield in September 2012 assured head teachers that the opening of new schools did not mean to pull out children from other schools. She also added saying that free schools were a part of the other schools and that they were neither in competition nor separate from others.

According to a County Hall Spokesman, primary school numbers in the east of Hemel Hempstead has increased during the past few years. This has brought an effect in other parts of the county as well. Ron Tindall, county councillor of the area has said that though he is not convinced he will go with the plan keeping in mind the interests of the children. The proposal for the plan is scheduled to be submitted at this year end.
