Free School Health Education package
Ulster Cancer Foundation is now called the Cancer Focus Northern Ireland. This organisation is launching a free School Health Education Package. It will address the problems of childhood obesity, sunburn and smoking. It aims to reduce the risk of cancer and other serious health conditions that may factor in the children’s future. The key message of this programme will cover on relevant topics, such as, healthy food, importance of regular exercising, cover from sun-rays and harmfulness of smoking. It will also teach skills necessary to refuse that first cigarette.
Schools can sign-up by contacting Cancer Focus. They can opt for the complete package of the programme, or one element in the programme of the Health Education. The package consists of activities for nursery school children. For P1 pupils it’s interactive storytelling. Healthy eating and exercise are for pupils of P2. Whereas for P3 and P4, it is a Fit Factor Challenge. It is Sun Scientists for students of P5. As for P6 and for P7 students it is Smokebusters.
Free for children, the Manga Christmas Comic Book
The comic book called “Journey out of darkness” published by SGM Lifewords, a charity that has been sharing Bible stories since 1888, will be distributed free to children who are 10 to 14 years old. This is as a result of the research by ChruchAds.net that revealed the fact that 17% of children aged 18 to 24 only know the story of Christmas.
