A venture that hopes to provide high speed Internet access to all premises in Northumberland is being trialled out offering free Internet access to 200 social housing lease holders.
In association with four of the biggest social housing providers, the iNorthumberland group headed by Northumberland’s County Council is requesting lessees who are unable to avail of Internet accessibility currently to submit an application for one of the four places on the new venture.
As compensation for filling up the normal survey forms that will be closely studied by research workers in the Durham University, the people taking part in the trial run would be provided with computers, Internet accessibility free of cost for six months as well as continuing tech support.
The Operations Manager at Berwick Borough Housing, Mr. Bernie Hogg remarked that those who were unable to avail access to the Internet had a lot of drawbacks. It is extremely clear that the persons who can access the Internet generally have better options to change over to the most excellent value provider of power, save hard earned money on shopping for food, and would also find it simpler to submit applications for jobs and also be able to avail of the vital facilities like housing and other advantages.
The Berwick Borough Housing lease holders would also be in a position to a maximum of fifty places and the ones who are chosen would be provided with the computer and Internet connectivity in the latter part of the summer.
Rajendra Carter of the Council stated that it was a thrilling venture and one that they anticipate would be the first of its kind in the country. He went on to say that they had earlier received quite a number of interested enquiries from national government who are eager to know about the findings of their survey.
Those people who would like themselves to be considered should get in touch with Berwick Borough Housing on the number 08000 461451 to avail of the application form that would have to be filled in and sent back on or before 21st September.
