With the North Somerset Council refurbishing Town Hall, it has invested a sum of money to the tune of 500,000 pounds for new furniture and is giving away the old unnecessary furniture to local groups.
The remodelling that is presently reaching the final phase will ensure that the responsibilities of the council are shared between the offices of the Town Hall in Weston, and Castlewood which is located in Clevedon.
The total sum of money spent on refurbishing the Town Hall stands at 9.7 million pounds, of which 515,000 pounds have been spent on new furniture.
A representative of the council stated that the old and conventional furniture in the office hinders the effective utilization of office space and that was the reason for paying to purchase bench-style desks. He remarked that working like that implied that they required much less space and could simultaneously enhance capacity.
The Town Hall currently has the capacity to seat 950 people, which is 50 % more that what it accommodate earlier, thereby offering the council and its associates the opportunity and the capabilities to extend their processes and hold on to the jobs in Weston.
The representative also added that the expenditure would be negated by the savings they could make from maintenance of property, cost of energy, by selling vacant portions and from the rent from private organizations that were renting space at the Town Hall and Castlewood.
Those organizations who are keen on getting free furniture that consist of filing cabinets, cupboards, desks and refrigerators could send an email to office.amalgamation@n-somerset.gov.uk and entering the term ”Office Furniture” in the subject field or they could call 01934 427474.
