Learn First Aid training free at school

Boehringer Ingelheim is the pharmaceutical company based in Bracknell, which has come forward to sponsor St. John Ambulance trainer to go to schools in areas where Bracknell News is circulated. According to St.John Ambulance’s liaison officer for schools, there is not greater lesson than the one that teaches school pupils basic first aid, which makes a difference between a life lost and a life saved. No school student is too young for this training. It also helps the youth to understand caring for others and the value of life. Besides developing life skills, it also helps in self-esteem. Although there is little spare time for extra-curricular activities, schools have found it worth giving pupils this opportunity to get trained. The charity runs training classes from 20 minutes to 1 hour. The training includes demonstration of techniques, including CPR. They also offer interested primary and secondary pupils the St. John Ambulance Young First Aider course with a certificate. The 6-hour course can be done in a day or in three 4-hour sessions. Under-five children too have a training session devised by the charity. To contact for all details, call 0118 933 5514 or email to schools@berks.sja.org.uk.

Enjoy book reading free of cost

Here is an excellent chance for school children looking for ways to spend their holidays with fun! It is announced that all libraries in North Somerset will conduct two national book projects in June by providing books to students for reading. Libraries will also conduct story and rhyme times for pre-school children from June 11th to 17th.

Yet another well known organisation called The Royal National Institute of Blind people will also join this programme. They will conduct ‘Make a Noise in Libraries’ programme from June 11th to 24th. The main idea behind this programme is to create awareness to bring to the notice of the people with sight loss about the book formats available with them.

Book reading will help children to not only increase their knowledge but also to create awareness of different book formats available in various libraries in North Somerset. Interested children are advised to get more information by visiting this site.

British Gas to present “Free Swim” Olympic campaign

British Gas has readied its ‘Free Swim for Britain’ television campaign. The activity will be on until 2 weeks before the Olympic Games. British supporters can show their support and get a “free swim” and the chance to join the aqua-aerobics or aqua tot class offered at over 700 leisure centres, hotels and health clubs across the UK, which British Gas will redeem as part of the television ad campaign.

The promotion will run up to 30th of August. Anyone can book free through the British Gas swimming microsite to promote the ‘Free Swim for Britain’ TV campaign. The company first ran a ‘Free Swim’ campaign on TV in 2009. British swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Keri-Anne Payne of Team GB have been signed up for the campaign and the ad using the Psyop animation will show speaking depictions of the sportswomen. The ad will run until the blackout period, that starts by 2 weeks ahead of the London Olympic Games, which has been used to protect official sponsors and prevent the using of Olympic athletes in ads made by non-sponsors.
