There is a partnership between Microsoft, TalkTalk and Simplify Digital called Get Online @ Home and its main objective is to offer thousands of the have-nots to be able to access the Internet. Get Online @ Home provides the people who cannot afford to access the Internet the opportunity to do so by bundling an inexpensive broadband connection with computers that are being sold at terrific discounts. This new initiative to provide reasonably priced computers as well as access to the Internet to people, who could not afford it earlier, was launched that day.
The move is a part of GO ON UK initiative from Martha Lane Fox. In fact the objective here was to instigate the older people, the business enterprises and charitable organizations to access the Internet and make use of the Web more frequently thereby becoming more efficient and effective. Ms. Fox stated that they were aware that many people were unable to afford purchasing a computer and getting connectivity, and being able to provide a machine with a whole year’s free broadband connection for less than 160 pounds would be a great help for plenty of people.
The less fortunate would be able to purchase revamped desktop machines and laptops that had the Windows 7 OS installed in them along with connectivity to the Internet from TalkTalk for a mere 159 pounds via the above mentioned partnership. The joint venture would also offer additional discounts to those users on government benefits.
This programme had at all times been offering discounts on hardware since the month of March the previous year. However this new tie up with TalkTalk entails a slash in the cost of computer costs and a sim0pler set up. Pone of the representatives of the scheme stated that the inclusion of TalkTalk into the partnership would hopefully make things ever easier.
Users would be offered 40GB of download a month with a free wire-free router and unrestricted evening and weekend calls to landlines anywhere in the country for a monthly fee of a mere five pounds.
