In Plymouth, Unicorn Harvester is preparing to launch a salad challenge and as part of the plan it is looking for children who have a liking for vegetable gardening. It is decided that 500 packets containing lettuce seeds to be given FREE to children who come to The Salad and grill restaurant on Plymouth Road from Monday, April 2nd. The children will be given advice as to the planting so that they can have their own lettuce garden. Generally it takes four to six weeks to grow a lettuce and the restaurant expects pictures of lettuce gardens.

The Manager of the Unicorn Harvester, Natasha Dingwall said that the project is aimed to raise a general awareness about healthy eating habits among the public, especially among children.

The manager said that Harvester is already renowned for its salad bar. She also said that the government’s recommended daily amounts would be provided to children in their 5- a- day menu. According to her, through the launching the Salad Challenge and the encouragement given to children to plant lettuce, the restaurant is able to convey a valuable idea throughout across in an engaging and interesting way. Children who want to participate can send pictures of their lettuce at www.harvester.co.uk/youngguests till 1st July.

The Harvester Young Guest menu provides the children to choose from a 3-course menu but ensures that they get full 5 portions in just a sitting. Apart from this Harvester children’s menu offers children a number of dishes to choose from, like an adult’s menu, a main course, a side and additional veg and a salad.
